Though China is the largest hydropower producer in Asia, the development of hydroelectric power is slowing down, as energy production evolves constantly. Northwest Engineering Corporation (NWE), a China-based design and engineering company, anticipated these changes and took action to adapt their business from a traditional water conservation and hydroelectricity company to a technology-driven engineering enterprise.
The company now focuses on other construction projects: some remain in energy products, like wind power, but they’ve also diversified to take on civil engineering projects like bridges, addressing a market both inside and outside of China.
NWE adopted Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE platform for a data-based digital workflow across all engineering projects from survey and design through to engineering, construction, delivery and operation. With a digital 3D design approach, the company’s bridge department is able to realistically simulate construction projects, which leads to a better understanding of complex structures and a reduction in labor costs and the design cycle. The virtual reality capabilities of the platform can show stakeholders not only how a bridge will finally look, but also allows them to experience how the bridge will integrate into the surrounding landscape.
