Al Bunshaft, President and CEO of DS Government Solutions, was recently sworn in as a member of the Massachusetts Governor’s STEM Advisory Council.
The council was officially established in July 2014 by former Governor Deval Patrick to ensure students across Massachusetts would receive high quality education in the STEM fields. The council is comprised of 40 professionals from business, academia, non-profits, and government, and is led by Jeff Leiden, the CEO of Vertex Pharmaceuticals and Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy III.
Having one of our own executive leaders representing Dassault Systèmes on the council reflects our strong commitment to STEM education both at home, and across the globe. From providing free 3D design software to schools, providing low-cost 3D design software to young entrepreneurs, to supporting the technical education of women in Rwanda, we are always working to improve the education of tomorrow’s engineers and scientists and the availability of the tools they need to build their careers.
In addition to his work on the STEM Advisory Council, Al has recently co-authored a paper examining the importance of education within the STEM workforce, titled”Focus on Employability Skills for STEM Workers Points to Experiential Learning.” Al is co-chair of the STEM Innovation Task Force, an initiative of STEMconnector. The white paper discusses skill sets that future STEM professionals need in order to do well in an ever-evolving economy. It zeros in on four specific skill groups that students should be taught, including digital fluency, innovation excellence, employability skills, and a set of ‘hard skills,’ which would be specific to the industry a student would be entering.
This is not the first time Al has written about the importance of STEM education and its impact on professionals. He also previously contributed a chapter to the book “Advancing a Jobs-Driven Economy.” The book focused in on how higher education and businesses can partner to enhance STEM education.
Al’s work towards promoting STEM education, through his publications and various involvements, embodies the values and dedication the Dassault Systèmes team. Dassault Systèmes has an event focused on STEM education planned once school is in session this fall and we’ll be back with more information soon.![cf]skyword_tracking_tag[/cf]
