On the Podium at the Multimedia Grand Challenge 2010

Represented by Julien and Remi, the Exalabs team participated in the Multimedia Grand Challenge at the ACM Multimedia 2010, one of the largest scientific conferences on multimedia technologies.

This international conference was held in the beautiful city of Florence, Italy (after Beijing last year).

Ballon Exalead
The Exalead team presented a new version of VoxaleadNews in the company of 18 finalists during a plenary session held before an  impressive audience. Each team had 3 minutes to present the fruits of its labor…180 highly intense seconds as you can imagine !
medaille Exalead’s topic, “Introducing topic segmentation and segmented-based browsing tools into a content based video retrieval system,” seemed to resonate with the jury, with the team bringing home the bronze medal!

Exalead shared the winner’s podium with teams from the University of Vienna (“Understanding Affect in Images” – first place) and the University of Brisbane (“Content Adaptation for Mobile Device Usage of Video Conferencing” –
second place).

At the same time, the Exalabs team benefitted significantly from the exciting presentations by fellow members from the multimedia research community,
an exchange which will no doubt lead to future labs projects :).

The week culminated an awards ceremony in the historic Palazzo Vecchio, where engaging panels by industry players like IBM and Google were held.

Thank you to all our Exalabs supporters! It is through your feedback and encouragement that we have been able to advance our demonstration projects.

We’ll be back in touch soon regarding the official launch of the new, prize-winning version of Voxalead News…
