In order to support the Indonesian government aim of becoming the a manufacturing hub for Southeast Asia, Indonesian businesses need to leverage digital skills to create sustainable innovations that enable them to better compete in a global market place. This requires a flexible, empowered workforce with digital skills who can quickly create ideas in a virtual world that can be used in the real world of manufacturing.
As the oldest technological university in Indonesia, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) has always been at the forefront of education, teaching Dassault Systèmes SOLIDWORKS applications in the Faculty of Industry Technology and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics.
Dassault Systèmes SOLIDWORKS applications form the basis of the institute’s engineering drawing courses, following which students use the application for other subjects, including project design. With SOLIDWORKS applications, many students find it beneficial to design in digital and collaborate across the manufacturing process. The institute has also received positive feedback from the industry as well as alumni on the practical value of knowing the application when moving to the workforce.
Established in 1994, Politeknik Manufaktur Negeri Bangka Belitung aims to build a cadre of skilled technicians to support Indonesian industrial growth. Students from the Politeknik also cite user-friendliness and wide-spread industry use as key reason to continue to leverage the application well after they graduate. In addition, with SOLIDWORKS applications students are able to shorten design times to five hours from four days previously.
The demand for cutting-edge real-time 3D skills is growing quickly in Indonesia and worldwide, and mastering 3D graphics or real-time 3D skills can provide a boost to early-career professionals. With 3D skills, professionals can render immersive experiences virtually indistinguishable from real life.
Both institutions have a certification process that enables students to gain industry recognition for their skills. The Indonesian Ministry of Industry is also introducing 3D CAD to vocational schools and undergraduate schools.
