V6 online from a coffee shop :)

Sometimes, when I tell customers that they can design from anywhere with V6, I get some raised eyebrows. So I thought I would give it a try at the local coffee shop. How “anywhere” is that? In seconds I was able to securely connect to our server in Boston to finish up my design work in CATIA V6 🙂

Great job man!! Thanks for sharing!

  • Impressive demo. Reminded my Inforbix blog – I was running Inforbix Product Data Apps from Lufthansa 747 over the Atlantic ocean. http://www.inforbix.com/inforbix-in-the-cloud-literally/

Hi Oleg, nice example too!! Stay tuned 😉

Sorry, I ain’t mean to troll, but I am absolutely not impressed. Give me any 3-tier application with data store on a network, a VPN and I have the same result. Thousands of applications do the same. For me you just show that you can connect to a hotspot from the coffee shop. Except if the VPN is included in the connector, or if the client is a real thin client (which does not seem the case), then there is nothing new there. If that is the case, then emphases it in the video.

  • Very cool! Not only can you reach CATIA from high in the sky, but also AutoCAD, Siemens, Pro-E, or ARAS – http://www.alcove9.com/blog 😀

@Jovan: whether you’re on a VPN or not, V6 will connect using a HTTPS connection. Here the idea was just to show a simple connection from “anywhere”, but stay tuned for more advanced scenarios and unexpected places 🙂 Thanks!
